It was such an honour to represent both the country of my birth, Singapore, and the country that raised me, Australia, as the host of the Australian High Commission of Singapore’s 2019 Australia Day event at the Clifford Pier last week.
Many people assume I am half Australian but both my parents are Singaporean, so growing up in Australia I experienced both Singapore and Australian cultures very strongly. This event married together those exact feelings, both influences in tandem equally.
I almost teared up when the Australian International School choir sang the Singapore national anthem and we toasted to the warm ties between the two countries.
Thank you to the Australian High Commission for choosing me to be your host.
Thanks to Cinq salon for my hair.
